Sam woke slowly, dimly aware of the muffled chirping of his wireless' alarm from under the bunk. It continued sounding for a short while before finally resetting itself to go off in another ten minutes. He didn't care, right at that moment he didn't care about anything else except for the person that was still wrapped in his arms. He pulled her into his chest and she made a small noise of approval before nestling farther into his embrace.
Sam felt her starting to stir; she looked up at him with sleepy, contented eyes for a moment before bolting awake. She sat there a moment with her hand over her mouth before quietly hissing, "Oh shit! I didn't mean to fall asleep! I probably shouldn't be down here should I?"
Sam quietly laughed at her as she fumbled in the dark trying to gather her clothing together, "Probably not."
She threw his shirt at him, "Shut up and help me! I can't find my bra, where did it go?!"
Sam poked his head under the bunk and retrieved the errant article of clothing. Taking it from him she hurriedly started getting dressed. Sam felt time slipping through his fingers like sand. Why was he suddenly so nervous? He tried to get her attention, "Roja…"
She sort of grunted something as she quickly threw her shirt over her head. Sam grabbed her hands and held them. She jumped slightly at the suddenness and looked into his eyes. Sam swallowed hard, "Roja… I… before you go…"
She nervously chewed her lip and looked expectantly at him. Why was he so nervous again?! He cleared his throat and started again, "I know it would be hard but, I'm not ready to give up on us… just yet... Are you, willing…"
She giggled slightly, but didn't look away, "Talk about your long-distance relationships." It was her turn to swallow hard, never taking her eyes off of his, "Why? Are you asking?"
He nodded, butterflies fluttering through his stomach, "Yes, I am… for as long as we can make it work anyway."
She couldn't help but grin at him, he could feel her hands trembling slightly in his, "This is nuts Sam! We'd never see each other… we'll literally be worlds apart."
He shrugged, "Well, we will just have to make the most of any time we get then. Besides, I know a couple of other people who are making it work so…"
She bit her lip again, "I think I'd like to try... I… what is that noise?"
Sam listened, he could hear his alarm chirping again from under the bunk where it'd landed last night, "My alarm for 0540..."
"I've got to go! Muster is in less than an hour!"
Sam got up and dragged her toward the barrack latrine, "Wait, you can shower down here then head up in your PT gear."
She didn't resist him, quickly stripped her shirt off again and jumped into the shower, "Ohhhh, I'd better not be late because of you."
He stepped in behind her and they stopped and just stood there for a while, the warm water running down both their bodies. She turned to him and they stared into each other's eyes for a moment before she quietly said, "Fuck it, I don't care if I am…"
Their mouths met and Sam pinned her to the wall with his body. If this was to be their final days together for a long time he intended to make the most of them.
